Le 28 septembre 2013 s’est tenue à Paris une importante rencontre à l’occasion du 40e anniversaire du Service pour les Relations avec l’Islam (SRI) qui dépend de la Conférence des évêques de France et auquel, depuis sa création, beaucoup de Pères Blancs ont apporté leur contribution. 1

Le Cardinal Tauran, Président du Conseil Pontifical pour le Dialogue Interreligieux, avait tenu à participer à cette rencontre où se sont retrouvés, autour de Monseigneur Michel Dubost, évêque d’Evry et Président du Conseil pour les relations interreligieuses, plusieurs évêques, des prêtres, des laïcs et des religieuses venus de nombreux diocèses, et aussi les responsables du Conseil Français du Culte Musulman, de mosquées et d’associations islamiques.

Depuis sa création en 1973, le SRI s’est beaucoup développé. Dirigé maintenant par le Père Christophe Roucou, il assume de mieux en mieux dans notre pays les tâches suivantes : “promouvoir le dialogue entre chrétiens et musulmans, former les catholiques sur le plan théologique, pastoral et spirituel ; développer les liens avec les responsables - les associations et les lieux de culte musulman”. 2

Comme l’a écrit Monseigneur Dubost à l’occasion de ce 40° anniversaire : “Le SRI est un appel à l’Église tout entière”.3

1. Le SRI a été dirigé par Michel Lelong de 1973 à 1980 et par Jean Marie Gaudeul de 2000 à 2006. Paul Didier y a travaillé de 2004 à 2010 et Georges Paquet de 2003 a 2012. Beaucoup d’autres confrères ont été en relation avec ce service dans leur apostolat.

An important meeting took place in Paris on the 28th September 2013 to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the founding of the Service for Relationships with Islam (SRI) which is part of the Conference of French Bishops. Since its foundation, many White Fathers have made important contributions. 1

Cardinal Tauran, President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue was eager to take part at this meeting where, besides Bishop Michel Dubost, Bishop of Evry and President of the Council for Interreligious Dialogue, many bishops, priests, laypeople and religious took part as well as leaders from the French Council of the Muslim Faith and representatives of mosques and Islamic Associations.

Since its foundation in 1973, the SRI has greatly developed. It is now directed by Fr. Christophe Roucou and it has taken many initiatives in France with the aim of “promoting dialogue between Christians and Muslims, to train Catholics at the theological, pastoral and spiritual level and to develop the links with the leaders – the Associations and the mosques of the Muslim Faith”. 2

On the occasion of this 40th anniversary, Bishop Dubost wrote: “The SRI is a call to action for the whole church.” 3

1. The SRI was directed by Michel Lelong from 1973 to 1980 and by Jean Marie Gaudeul from 2000 to 2006. Paul Didier worked there from 2004 to 2010 and Georges Paquet from 2003 to 2012. Many other confreres were in contact with it during the course of their pastoral work.
