Pope Benoit XVI intends to solemnize
the fiftieth anniversary of the Second Vatican Council: this will be the Year
of the Faith. Christians rejoice and expect successful outcomes, a time which
do not lack signs of backward or coming challenges. Diocesan and parish authorities
are indeed now in the hands of men -still only men- who have not known the
Church before the Council: How then would
they appreciate what it brought, without having suffered from what has preceded?"
The
author wants to be optimistic, even if one feels the disappointment of an
elderly man who, like those of his generation, has never been consulted on
anything whatsoever, in complex hierarchies. Indicating clearly what seems
it alarming signs, he hopes for the year of faith, a new fresh wind blowing
upon a church where there still are many corners to dust off.
White father Missionary in Democratic Republic of Congo and Mexico author of some 30 books, Fr. Duval after 60 years given to the formation of priests, religious, catechists and animators for Christian communities, is now devoted to the pastoral care of health.
